Almost all of us experience baby blues!
They usually come around a couple days after your child’s born and it’s completely normal.
All the happiness and excitement we’ve been filled with leading up to the big day makes us feel like we’re on top of the world and the feeling only gets better right after they’re born :)
But like a good cup of coffee, these feelings don’t last forever. Nearly 80% of moms start feeling sad, tired and at fault (along with other symptoms) about 2 or 3 days into postpartum.
The most important thing to realize is that it’s not your fault. All the emotions, mixed with your hormones simply just make you feel down.
Luckily, baby blues usually only for last around 2 weeks and there are many ways to make yourself feel better!
I know, I know. The last thing you wanna do right now is go outside, hop on your bike and go for a ride (or anything outside for that matter).
Every part of your body is telling you to stay home, lay down and do nothing. But if you can muster up the will power to get out of the house and get moving, I promise you you’ll feel better.
Even on my worst days, whether it be while I was pregnant, nursing or in my day to day life, exercise has ALWAYS made me feel better.
I think it’s a combination of all the blood flowing around your body mixed with the happy hormones that makes you feel good again.
If you wanna feel even better, go exercise without music and preferably with your partner, another mom or soon-to-be mom (they’ll know exactly what’s going on and will make for a much more relatable and fun time).
Hang out with people who’ve been there before
If you’ve got a good relationship with your mom, nows a great time to go see her. She’ll have been through everything you’re going through now.
Not only will she be able to help you feel better, she’ll easily relate to you and everything that’s been going on. You’ll definitely have a good time together and may even share some laughs :)
Another great option is to go see your mom friends, or if you’re the only mom of the group, here are some great ways to meet new moms:
Support groups, postpartum yoga, baby stores, the doctors office, postpartum classes or you can even chat on forums.
I know it can be scary to join a support group, but nearly every momma out there wants to talk to someone just as bad as you do, so there’s rarely any ice to break and it’s also very reassuring to hear other women share your worries, insecurities, and feelings.
Do the things you normally never have time for
Whether it’s watching movies with your partner, taking a bath, cooking, getting a massage or whatever else you enjoy, you just endured 9 months of carrying a baby around.
So you most definitely deserve to indulge in the things you enjoy, but normally can’t do for at least the next week or two.
If you can, take the week off and enjoy yourself. You deserve it!
Taking the week off isn’t always an option though - it sure wasn’t for me. If you can’t, then try to dedicate the evenings to doing the stuff you love. I’m sure your partner would be happy to give you some more free time by doing a few extra things around the house.
An added bonus to this is that if you and your partner can do the stuff you never have time for together, it’ll likely help strengthen the relationship you have!

While this is the end of my blog post, the list doesn’t end here! - there are many other ways to cope with baby blues.
I’ve only included these three suggestions because they’re exactly what helped me most during my baby blues and any other time I’ve felt down.
My friends have also tried all of these tips during their pregnancies and were able to overcome their baby blues, or at least make them a lot more bearable.
I really hope you’re able to try at least 1 or 2 of these suggestions with some baby blue changing success and maybe even meet a couple new momma friends along the way.
These feelings will pass and I’m sure you’re gonna make one heck of a great mom. I believe in you!
